TREKEver since I was a kid I love this TV series. Captain Kirk's adventures, along with Spock -my favorite-, McCoy, Scott, Uhura, Sulu, Chekov, etcetera, are unforgettable. Each time Star Trek is on TV, I always end up watching it and enjoying it, even if I've seen that chapter one thousand times before (so what, I'm a fan...).
When they created the new series "Star Trek: The Next Generation", I said "How good!", but when I saw the first and second seasons, I thought "Bletch!!! This looks more like `The Degeneration'": lousy scripts and annoying characters (like that ridiculess Deanna Troi and the Weasel) made the series be bad, and the best episodes were just mediocre. Beginning in the third season it got a lot better, increasing until its maximum in the sixth season - but it never surpassed the original series (obviating the fact that we're comparing a '60s series with a '80s-'90s one).
And what's up with Deep Space 9 and Voyager? Oh, well...
DS9 is mediocre... "to boldly go where no man has gone before" stationed on a fixed place? OOF! (what else could be expected from a series created by that Rick Berman asshole?). As Phil Kernick put it: "to boldly go nowhere". Although some episodes have turned out to be good, this has happened only from time to time. Anyway, DS9 certainly is not worse that TNG's first and second seasons.
Voyager is idiotic: they're lost somewhere in the galaxy, and they're trying
to return... "to cowardly go back home". GARBAGE. To add insult to
injury, they've fallen in this "Politically Correct" stupidity that's causing
so much damage in U.S.A.'s living togetherness: among other things, they got
a black vulcan that's the security chief (!) - I don't have anything
against black people, but this character is and looks ridiculess, and there's
nothing that can be done about it. Besides this, his unvulcan behavior
doesn't help (I mean, he greets someone shaking hands, misses his mommy,
etcetera).
Anyhow, Voyager's badly designed characters are nothing compared to the
TERRIBLE scripts it's got, the vile alterations they've made to the known
universe (Q having a KID? Puh-lease...) and, of course, the dirty tricks they
have pulled to boost the ratings (species 8742 and its ships, Jeri Ryan and
her two powerful reasons, etcetera).
It's a pity, but something that used to be so good has been ruined without any care, just to make money.
I have written a document that speculates how would have Picard acted if he and his ship were in a TOS episode. Other texts in the same style are coming real soon now.
